Character Name: Dr. Horrible/Billy Fandom: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog Gender: Male Age: Mid-Late 20s? It's not specified. Sexuality (if applicable): Straight. (Possibly bi, along the lines of "I could never love another woman...") Original or Anomaly?: Original
Appearance: Dr. Horrible/(Red Labcoat)/Billy Dr. Horrible is around 6 feet tall, skinny and blond, with blue eyes and a bit of a twitch, especially when he's nervous or lying. He normally wears labcoats, preferring red over the usual white. He used to have a certain hope to his appearance before, but he's gone pretty cynical as of late. Minus the coat and goggles, he wears jeans, hoodies and sweaters in mostly dark colors.
Personality: Billy (alias: Dr. Horrible) is a nice guy, really. He just thinks the evil side of science is fascinating. He's the kind of guy who sympathizes with the underrated dork-loser (because he is that guy). Although he cynically sees the world as a polluted mess, he has no doubt that he can steer it in the right direction.
Because of this, whenever he invents or builds whatever Ray or other scientific nick-knack he's been working on, he always fails to see the possibility of his plans not working. Usually he invents things because they're cool, but more recently to further his 'evil schemes'. They're still really cool, though. (Have you seen his Freeze Ray? It stops time. Tell your friends.) Inventing and such started as somewhat of a hobby, now it's become his way to relieve stress and get work done.
As for Billy's 'bad guy ideals,' he has a very... well, lame view on what villains should be. The laugh, the long-winding monologues... Dr. Horrible follows that certain 'Villain Code' to a T. It's all about 'villainous morals' and taking down his arch-nemesis, Captain Hammer. Dr. Horrible is willing to bend a few honorable villain rules when it comes to him. He'd really like to see that guy dead on the pavement, blood spilling from his chest wound as shrapnel encases his chest and--Ah. Got carried away there. In other words, he wants him dead.
Billy's main problem is that he's just no good in social situations. He's awkward, fidgety, and dodges questions when things get uncomfortable for him. See, despite him having a blog and his evil-villain costume being completely obvious, he thinks his identity is a secret. Whenever his 'not quite socially accepted views' come out, he tries to change the subject or pretend it never happened. He'll want to say "Oh, but wouldn't it be better if we just stole those things?" but it'll come out "Oh, wouldn't it be better if we--uh- nevermind," which usually leads to him lying (albeit, obviously).
Despite how hard he tries, Billy isn't evil. He probably never will be. He'll try to convince himself that Dr. Horrible got his big break, that this is his chance to shine with evil splendor, but... he just can't bring himself to kill anyone. Poor Dr. Horrible is all bark and no bite. Maybe deep down, he knows Penny wouldn't like that version of himself.
History: Dr. Horrible was just another wannabee super-villain, with just another arch-nemesis (Captain Hammer) and just another cute girl (Penny) who was just slightly out of his league. Sadly, the bad guys never win, even when the heroes are complete jerks. His dreams have come true, yet, he seems kinda sad. His walk is too rough, his work is too rash. Everything about him seems on edge since he got into the Evil League of Evil. If you saw him walking down the hall and said 'hi', he'd scowl at you or ask, irritatingly, “what do you want?” He's on the fast-track to super villainy, yet he's never been more miserable.
This is because Billy is not happy. See, it turns out, Dr. Horrible isn't sad; Billy is. Billy lost the girl of his dreams. His awkward glances, his caring words and his 'save-the-world-from-itself' ideals were brutally murdered the day his dream girl was too. Billy is empty, trying to grasp at what little the world has to offer him. He wants to smile when spoken to, he wants to gaze wistfully into nothing as he thinks about happier days. Billy wants to fill that emptiness with something. Maybe not anger, maybe not sorrow, but something. Something Penny (that was his dream girl, by the way) would be proud of. Billy wants to go on with his life, but it's too late. This because Billy went by the name 'Dr. Horrible' before. Back when he had a blog, only his friends called him Billy.
Billy is not a villain, but he does not want to be a hero either. It was a Hero (the so-called 'Captain Hammer') who stole his girl away. It was a hero who beat him unconscious when all he was trying to do was steal some hazardous material to power his Stun Ray.
To Billy, Heroes are bad and Villains are cool. Billy doesn't like killing, but his hesitation is what gave Captain Hammer the chance to steal his Death Ray. The explosion caused by the Death Ray killed Penny. She died because Billy hesitated, so he decided he won't hesitate anymore.
Now a fully-fledged member of the Evil League of Evil, Dr. Horrible has been anxiously awaiting his first solo assignment. He's pretty sure it didn't involve space though...
Strengths: Dr. Horrible is pretty weak physically, though he seems surprisingly resilient, having survived cars thrown at him and various pummelings by Captain Hammer (who has super-strength). He's a genius inventor who specializes in building Rays or all sorts (Stun Ray, Freeze Ray, Death Ray, etc.) Once he starts working on something, he becomes completely committed to it and doesn't give up till it's finished.
Weaknesses: Dr. Horrible is a 'ends justify the means' kind of guy, so what he does tends to cause him more trouble in the long run. He clams up when important choices slam him in face, and is hesitant to actually kill anyone. This wouldn't be a problem if he weren't supposed to be a super-villain. As Billy, he doesn't like bringing up his 'evil' aspirations, so he becomes pretty meek overall. Maybe he just feels lost without his goggles and labcoat... The fastest way to stop him, whenever, is to mention or even allude to Penny, true love, or anything else that could remind him of her. It completely breaks him. That, or sneak up on him when he's concentrated. He'll jump a few feet easily.
